19, college junoir. practically failed all three years. Realized that mechanics is not suited for me.?
i was thinking about changing my major from engineering to biology or life sciences because i feel i have the passion to become a dermatologist, that is something i see myself doing everyday for the rest of my life. I need help from advisors, students that have true similar situation, why would you do. My gpa is 2.1 right now. I was thinking of transferring and starting fresh with new zeal. I am not even down about the situation i feel there is hope. But i need realistic advise. What can be done?

i planning on starting over for the next 3years plus summer school. Finical aid isn’t really an issue because my parents have decided to pay out of pocket and they are very supportive. I just to know ill 3 years of strong dedication get me to my desired profession.and is it possibly to transfer and if it is what schools will you recommend in new york boston maryland california and pennsylvania

Know that your old transcripts will be part of your college record and you need to report all transcripts when you transfer as well as when you apply for graduate school.

If you have a sharp upward motion in GPA that is in your favor for many things–but for medical school, I believe they generally look at overall GPA (from all schools combined). I would post your questions on a sub-forum that deals with medical/grad school applications for a clearer picture of what is possible.

There are not many schools in CA that you can transfer to with a 2.1 GPA. It is too low for almost every CSU these days and forget the UCs. Same with all tier one privates. Perhaps some of the lesser known privates may look at you (Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont, CA for example).

Another route is to take a year of community college classes to boost your GPA and then try transferring.

Can you stay at your current university and just switch majors there?

you are 19 years old and you have been in college for three years failing? so you started when you were 16? when i was that age you had to be a pretty top notch student to enroll in college at age 16. wondering what happened there. how many units have you earned?

At first when I read this I thought it was unusual for a 19 year old to be a junior in college but I then realized that I am a 19 year old junior :). 2.1 is a low gpa and you will have to work very hard to bring it up to >3.2 to be considered for DO schools and will more than likely need a 3.4+ to get into an allopathic medical school. This is all considering you really rock the MCAT. Derm is also one of the most competitive medical specialties there is and you will have to score very high on the boards to be considered. I suggest you start volunteering at hospitals and change your major to see if the biological/natural sciences work in your favor before committing yourself to something (solely set on becoming a derm) that may end in turmoil.
