Urgent: How do I count activity weeks?

What if I joined an activity that lasts year round but I haven't yet been in it a year? Should I put 52 weeks or how long I've been? I mean, it's weeks/year. It lasts a whole year so by definition it should be 52, and I'll eventually be there for 52 weeks, but thats seems dishonest since I havent been in as long.

On the other hand I will stay in the activity even after I apply and it will eventually turn inot 52 anway, so what should I put.

Example: I'm in something since september but it lasts all year cept summer 1 month. It seems stupid to put 12 weeks...

Please, reply soon, I need to know by the end of today.

D was confused on this sort of thing as well, including which summer went with which year (9, 10, 11 or 12). She decided--somewhat arbitrarily--that graduating from 8th grade made her a 9th grader, so she included that summer as her 9th grade summer--meaning nothing she does after hs graduation counts. But you could just as easily argue the other way -- and begin counting with the first day of 9th grade, in which case you would be within your rights to count all 11 months of something you started in September and will continue through all but one month of the summer. I don't consider either method dishonest. What I would consider dishonest would be to count 5 summers -- by include both the one before high school and the one after.

hmmm I see but...

I've been in kendo for a month now. I really like it and I'll certainly stay in it until I go to the US at least (im in europe atm).

But 1 month doesnt equal 30-something weeks. It will eventually be 30-something weeks but will adcoms think I'm trying to lie or something?

Because I can see this as a loophole. You join activities and then leave them once you've sent your apps.

Basically theres no way to know if you'll stay in the activity (I might break my back for examplea nd be unable to keep playing kendo) so is it right to put down how long you estimate ull be in it, and not how long u've been in it up till now?

edit: i know uve answered yes to this question but I want other peoples thoughts, or more of yours

If everyone had to cut off their activities as of the date of the application, nobody would have any activities at all for more than half their senior year. If you sincerely plan to spend 30 weeks in an activity, put it down. Injuries and other unforeseen events happen. If you really aren't sure if you're going to stick it out past the date you get your admissions letter, then I do believe that is dishonest. Brand new senior year activities aren't given a lot of weight by admissions folks in any event. They are looking for long-term commitment. If it's not a new activity, if it's something you've done for several years, there is no reason to suspect that you are lying about planning to do it again this year.

Ok thanks. Anyone else? I'm gonna send my stanford app in an hour?

Hah, interesting. I was wondering about a similar thing...if you do an activity starting in the summer, which year (9th, 10th, etc) does it count on?

So, you're saying an activity you begin right at the end of freshman yr (in the summer) could be counted for "9th"?

And you could also consider something before 9th grade starts to be "9th." Thats confusing.

Well, at my school, there's 40 weeks in a school years, according to school counselor. For one of my clubs, even though it's an all-year-round commitment (I work outside of school, during summers too), I still wrote 40 weeks.

For most of my activities, i write it based on my previous counts of my hours/weeks dedicated, and when I check off 12th grade too, I assume it'll be for teh whole year.

Yes, I would count summer activities.

And yes, as :( as it is, both those instances count as 9th, I believe.

Yeah, I never wrote more than 40 weeks either...for the same reason.

Heh, they shoudl have little boxes for each of the summers, to avoid confusion. Although that much precision is probably irrelavent anyways.

Yeah, I was mostly talking about the 12th grade stuff. Not sure how the summer topic got weaved in. Doesn't really mater now... I'm done with the apps that are most important to me and I put it down in additional information.

Thanks anyway, especially to 1d22g, since I used his/her advice.
