Hi guys,
Tomorrow I’m going in for an interview for an internship at my congressman’s local office. I’m a high school junior with strong extracurriculars and an interest in politics. Is there anything specific I should do to prepare for the interview? Also, the reason I included “Urgent” in the title is because the time for the interview just got confirmed like 10 minutes ago.
Thanks
Have a couple of questions to ask when they ask if you have any questions at the end of the interview, you don’t want to just say no and leave because they’ll think you didn’t have enough interest in the position to research it or that you lack enthusiasm for the position.
@Uni1234 Oh yeah that’s a good idea. I will think of some questions to ask.
If you have a resume prepared, you should bring it.
Think of a few reasons why you are interested in this particular internship and as noted above prepare a few questions you can ask.
Have some understanding of what’s going on locally and your Congressman’s positions on current bills, events. etc. There’s a good chance this won’t come up, but if it does, you need to sound like you know what’s going on!
Be prepared to talk about the things that are on your resume/application, to give an example of working on a team, and be able to talk comfortably about dealing with a negative situation (like having to work with someone you didn’t get along with). Have questions prepared that aren’t easily answered by Google, and make sure you leave with a good understanding of what your responsibilities would be, hours expected, who you would work with, etc. It should be a positive experience and you want to make sure you know what you’re getting in to if they offer you the internship.
Hi guys, thanks for your help.
I got the internship!!! She told me on the spot.
