I just got a letter from cal saying that i need to submit 07-08 verification form and income tax forms. It also says that this "review is unrelated to your admission status". I don't get this because i thought we only needed to submit FAFSA and Cal grant gpa verification, which i did a long time ago. I have not received this type of letter from any other UCs.

They verify applications randomly for about 10% of applicants just to make sure noones cheating their way through the admissions process.

Wait, what??? I got the letter so I have to fill it out? I thought I had to wait until I got accepted, and if I really wanted to go there, then I would have to fill it out (?)

It's essentially just a quality control measure to make sure people don't lie on their financial aid info; it doesn't mean you got in, it doesn't mean you didn't get in.

Why wouldn't this mean that he got in? After all, it makes no sense for Berkeley to ask for income tax forms with the intention of rejecting him later.

I like your theory better. ;) More hope for me.

If you want to go to CAL and you need financial aid, you should fill it out ASAP. Otherwise you won't receive your FA pacakge in a timely manner.

We filled ours out immediately and son didn't receive his FA package until mid April. It was kind of stressful waiting for the FA package as CAL was his first choice but we couldn't commit until we knew what kind of financial aid he would receive.

I got that last year too and I got in. Don't really know if it has anything to do with admissions but why would they bother to ask you for financial data if you're not going to go to the school.

LMJSF - As mentioned elsewhere in the thread, essentially quality control to make sure people don't lie on their financial aid applications (So they randomly send these letters out to a certain percentage of applicants). The FAFSA people do the exact same thing, and people here reported that they received a letter from the FAFSA people asking for verification and in the end they didn't get any financial aid.
