(Urgent lol) Does anyone know about repeating grade?

Hi CC ers! Right now, I am senior..... and I really need you guys' help ...

<this is="" basically="" what="" happened...="" you="" can="" skip="" and="" go="" to="" the="" next="" paragraph..=""></this>

Recently, I got one F (on the first semester) in a non-academic program (it was pass-fail and

yeah... I failed...FML).. I only applied to prestigious colleges (YPMSC...... I got deferred @

Caltech/ UChicago on Early action) and I am really worried about getting into good/even any

college...... (btw, I am an international student... ) The reason I failed was that my

grandmother died in the mid of the semester and my grandfather also had not a good time

(he was sick.... for a long time) and because of those events, I had a real hard time and

although I was able to pull my grade up from 2A 4B 1 C to All A but one B, I failed one of

this program...

Knowing that this is detrimental to the college admission and, just got the news

that my grandfather's health got much worse,I am thinking of

whether I really should finish my grade this year .... and instead, repeat my senior year..

I am planning to apply to some other boarding schools.... (yeah.. it is really late, yet

some high schools that I know accept until 2/1...... and unfortunately it needs to be a

boarding school.... I am an international student) I qualified to the USAMO and

did several other math competitions and I do not think I have a terrible SAT score (2160)

I am really not sure of what I need to do ..... (Because my SAT score is not good enough

for my dream schools, and yeah... I do not feel too terrible on repeating grade/ PG because

when I first came to America, approx. 3 yrs ago, I was planning to start as 8th grader..)

so, (wow.. it took me such a long time to even get to the question) I have few questions..

(1) If I repeat grade (then I will probably drop my school now or soon).... is it possible to
"overwrite" my first semester (esp. one F) grade????

(2) Am I just over reacting??? should I finish my grade??? Knowing that that program is not graduation requirement/ academical one, does college will not care about it? (but, really, because of all those things happen at a same time.. it really really sucks.... and I am really unwilling to do any academic works.)

(3) Should I do PG??? (Postgraduate/ 13th grade) does it can "overwrite" my first semester grade???

(4) Any advice? help???

Thank you so much......... wow.. I hate my life...

Is it required that you repeat the 12th grade because of one fail in a P/F class? Unless your school is really strict, that doesn’t look like it should be the case.

I do not think repeating a grade will erase your semester’s grade. This might be up to your school, however.

Colleges do care. However, you have a legitimate reason for your failing mark. Send a letter supplement explaining your circumstances to the colleges you have applied to and show that it was not due to senior slacking.

Doing PG is up to you. Personally if I were you, I wouldn’t do it, just because repeating a grade would seem unnecessary and entirely too tedious.

As of now, I would just send those colleges a letter. Perhaps look for some colleges with late deadlines that you could apply to and be happy at, and then later transfer out. Since it’s your senior year, failing marks (especially in a pass/fail non-academic course) do not hold as much weight as if it were to happen earlier in your academic career. Your situation could be a lot worse lol, so don’t give up yet.

AeroEngineer3141/ Thank you SO MUCH for your advice/ comment!

anybody has idea?? lol

I agree with AeroEngineer. I don’t think failing one class warrants repeating an entire grade (goddddd, no). Just send a note to colleges explaining your circumstances… hopefully, they’ll understand.
