URGENT!! Looking for suggestions for which private schools to apply to! Business/econ major at CCC

Hello everyone,

With the deadline for private schools approaching, I have begun to realize that I really need to get going on my Common App.

I have applied to the UCs earlier this fall. I am mainly trying to get into Haas (Berkeley), but I realize that with Haas, no one can really tell what will happen. I have also applied to UCLA, UCSD, and UC Davis. However, I would prefer not to go to UCSD or UC Davis. I already got into those two out of high school, but didn’t really like either of them, and decided to enroll at community college.

Oh yeah! Thanks to numerous AP exam scores as well as taking community college courses in high school, this is going to be my only year at community college. In other words, I am a 1 year junior transfer, and am “skipping” a year of college.

That being said, I would really like to diversity my college application portfolio by applying to more schools, but do not know where I should apply. I got into USC out of high school as well, but did not like the environment off campus much. I did not apply to Marshall this year. While going to Columbia or Wharton would be great, I doubt I would have of a chance getting in. I’m not looking to apply to great schools that is seemingly impossible to transfer into.

What I am looking for, are realistic reaches. Schools that are renowned for their business programs or are on similar levels with maybe UCLA and Berkeley that are realistic to transfer into. So far, the only school I’ve kind of looked into was Cornell, but learned that their Applied Econ and Management major and Hotel Management major are very competitive for transfer. (I am not sure if I want to apply Industrial Labor Relations [1/3 of ILR is transfer students according to their page] , since I’m not really interested in that aspect of business)

I currently have 61 semester units at my community college with a 3.97 overall GPA. My UC GPA is a 4.0, but I received a B on student government. This is my only B. I also received a 2190 on my SAT and 33 on my ACT, and have scored over 750 on 4 SAT Subject tests. I heard that high school GPA does not really play a role after 60 semester units, so whatever… hahah

Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thank you guys so much!

I should also probably mention that I am looking to get into management consulting or something similar straight out of graduation. My ultimate dream is to found my own start up tech company!

The list of schools that take transfers at that level is pretty short - and you’ve ruled out many of them. Santa Clara is the only one that comes to mind.(you missed the UW window) If UCB doesn’t work out, I’d encourage you to take another look at UCD.

Good luck.
