Urgent Mechanical Pencils?

For tommorrow's test, are we allowed to use mechanical pencils and does it make a difference?

Before Test Day
Make sure you have two No. 2 pencils and a soft eraser. A No. 2 pencil is required to answer the essay and the multiple-choice questions. Mechanical pencils are not allowed. Pens are not allowed.

this is from collegeboard. i guess it would be hard to notice for the essay portion but just take a No.2 pencil for the scantron...

Mechanical is fine. I am not sure why CB specifically prohibits mechanical pencils (perhaps for an unfounded fear that the markings would not register), but I have NEVER had a student not get her exam scored correctly because she used a mechanical pencil.

I always use mechanical pencils on the SAT and ACT. Make sure it says No2 on it, and you are good to go!

I always used mechanical ones for the SAT's without knowing they were forbidden. My mechanical pencil says its a #2 pencil so im good to go.

when I first read the thread title, I thought that the topic was Urgent Mechanical Pencils.

make sure you have other pencils!!!
I was fine on the PSAT and first SAT, but the last SAT and ACT the procters were extremely strict about it and took away all the mechanical pencils. one of the tests had *****y extra pencils, but the other procter made people borrow extras from other people.
so even though they might not cause a scoring problem they could cause a procter problem.

Well, you actually have to make sure the lead container says number two on it.

Maybe people hide essays or notes or something inside their mechanical pencils, and collegeboard didn't say the reason, because they didn't want anyone to get ideas... because we all know proctors aren't going to ALL check for mech pencils.

And why are we even posting on this..? The OP posted like 13 days ago.

mechanical pencils suck anyway. A real pencil is more reliable and less likely to break. I use an HB #2 all the time.

My SAT proctor let this nerd to. He argued that mechanical pencils have always worked on other test, so she let him screw himself.

but there's nothing wrong with using them. they work perfectly fine.
some procters just won't allow them so you should be prepared.

some procters are mean! But none of my procters ever had a problem with pencil types.
