Hi, I am an international student with F-1 Visa majoring in Anthropology. I just transferred to UCB this fall, and I am taking 14 units in total (minimum req for L/S students is 13units).
Q1. I am currently enrolled in one Anthropology class and to be honest, I feel like I cannot get a good grade in this class… because all the exams are in-class essays, and I am even struggling to digest all the assignments. (Or even, I might get a failing grade in this class) This class is mandatory for Anthropology major students, but I believe it will be okay for next semester or something. So, I am thinking to drop it, but it will be under the minimum unit requirement if I drop this 4 units anthropology class. (*I have to decide whether to drop it or not, because this coming friday(Sep 9th) will be the last day to drop the class without getting W.)
Well, fortunately, for F-1 International students, universities allow the students to have under-unit ONLY ONCE. Should I use this chance and drop that Anthropology class? OR, should I just try my best and drop the class if I really think I can’t afford it for now?-then I will get W, but I don’t really care unless I can graduate.
Q2. If I get many W’s on my record, will they affect on my graduation?
Q3. If I get failing grade from the class, will it affect on my graduation? (What happen if I get many failing grades? It is my very first semester, so I don’t really know how difficult the classes are, so I am just imagining the situation if I get many D or F’s)
Thank you.
