so long story short, i'm a senior with the follwoing schedule
ap lit
apes
ap gov/ap econ
stat
video/film
painting
now all of those are college prep courses, but the problem with me is that i have almost no E.C.'s besides ~350 hours of community service.
club week is coming up so now i was thinking of dropping painting or video film (both of which actaully take a llooot of time) and switch to T.A. which is NOT a college prep course, but with all the free time i was thinking of making two clubs + do some more community service hours.
so my question is is it worth it to sacrifice a college prep course for 2 clubs and some hours?
and plus without painting or video/film i'd be guaranteed to have A's in all my other courses, (my main concern would be that i'm afraid college would look at the T.A. and think that im not taking a rigrious enough course in my senior year) and im only applying to UC's if that counts for anything
pleaaase give your advice or experience. thanks you soo much

Are you planning on studying art in college or do you have art as a big secondary interest of yours?

Do you actually want to start a club? If you’re only quitting the classes in an effort to start a club so it’ll “look good” on your application I’d advise against it. (Besides, 2 clubs? Starting and leading just one takes a lot of work.) Can you find a way to engage with a club that you’re not necessarily the leader of, but that you do some important function for?

no actually, to be honest i only took those two classes because i need “filler” classes, they’re not underwater waving basket classes but they’re not much help to my intended major either (psychology)
well i dont have to my friend already asked me if i wanted to be vp for a club but i temporarily turned it down cuz of time constraints. if i do decide to drop one of them i was thinking of making a club (which i somewhat want i guess its 70%interest 30 % credit) and joining as the vp for my friend’s club so yeah i dont really know what to do
as mentioned i’m just afraid UC’s ganna think that T.A. is a not rigorous enough

If you’re just starting a club now, in your senior year, you won’t have time to nurture it into a successful organization. I think you’re better off keeping your solid academic schedule. In most cases and at most schools, your academic record is way, way more important than your ECs; the exceptions are athletes good enough to be recruited, and people who’ve done really amazing and unusual ECs throughout high school.

Also: I was under the impression from other threads that UCs in particular didn’t care much about ECs at all–is that incorrect?

really? but im really really low on E.C.
but now that you mentioned it i may have some second thoughts. well i already have 350 hours of c.s. if i make a club that involve or do some more community service and by some miracle hammer out another 100 hours or so in October would you think its worth it?

If I were you, I would drop the classes you deem unimportant and work on your ECs, although it may be a little bit too late, it’s always better late than never.

EC is for only top privates.

Art classes are not college prep unless they are serious studio classes like AP Studio Art. There’s no point in letting that class suck dry your free time since it’s not particularly impressive anyway (colleges have no way of knowing it’s particularly difficult at your school).

But UCs will make admissions decisions based almost entirely on stats. You’re not doing yourself any favors by joining random clubs this year.

that was i was thinking but im really afraid of the whole “senior course load” thing that the UC have on their admission page.
oh
@glassesarechic o? well apparently in our school it is because all college prep classes have a P next to their title and there’s a P next to painting, as is video/film. not trying to be rude or anything.
this is why i cant really make up my mind, i asked the same question to my counselors and friends who’s pretty knowledgeable in that admission area and half of them says keep the class while the other half says develop my EC, and i have to decide by tommrorw morning :/
