Urgent NYU question

Around 3 weeks ago, NYU sent out emails saying that if you were a National Merit Finalist, you confirm your status.. I mistakenly read this email to say that you were supposed to confirm your status to see if you were eligable in the National merit finalist scholarships and such (i am not a NMF)..

About a week ago I recieved a letter saying that I was invited (b/c of my NMF status) to join some honors program at NYU... since i wasn't a NMF I was confused and gave it to my GC who called the NMF place to confirm that I wasn't (who was then going to contact nyu)..

I just put 2 and 2 together and realized that it was b/c i confirmed the email i got this letter...

I am not interested in going to NYU and my GC already called the company who was going to call NYU (and I am not sending back the form which required a number to confirm you were a NMF)... so I was wondering if i should call NYU tommorow and clear it up with them or just ignore it.

I just don't want NYU to think I was lying by confirming it.. rather that it was a silly mistake.

What do you guys think.

There's only one reason you would lie about your NMF status: if you wanted to gain something out of it. Since you are gaining nothing, it was just an honest mistake.
