(Urgent!!! Please Help Me!!!) I am defered by UIUC's Chemical Engineering from LAC

i am deferred by UIUC's Chemical Engineering Major from College of Liberal Arts and Science.

I am wondering does my choice of major make getting into UIUC harder? is it easier if i change to economics which is still in the same school?

Or maybe I can try the undeclared major at Division of General Studies?

Thanks Sooooooo MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chemical engineering is probably as tough to get into as any major within the school of engineering. It’s only in LAS for traditional reasons. So to answer your question, yes, you would have a better chance getting into Econ. Howeverrrr, everyone is considered for DGS, so you might as well apply under something you enjoy and want to pursue.

Best of luck to you in the regular decision round!

Don’t switch now. You will automatically be considered for DGS, if you don’t get into your chosen major. And the above poster is correct, Chem Eng is taught by engineering professors, and you should look to the freshman profile for acceptance to that college to determine your odds of acceptance.

You can just go into DGS and take the same classes. You would just need to get above a B to transfer after your first year. However, there is still hope! A lot of people (especially in engineering and business) get deferred and accepted later. Here is my stats (I got into ChemE but I really wouldn’t have minded DGS since I know I can get above a B). If your close or better than my stats you could very well get in.
