***URGENT Please Help with Chances (EDII Emory or Boston University)***

So I have a bit of a Dilemma: Im trying to decide where to apply ED2 and Im torn between reaching for Emory or settling on Boston University. I really liked both of the schools, and know I would be happy at both, but when visiting, I did get an overall better feeling at Emory because of the traditional college campus feel. Emory is my first choice, but Im not completely sure if I should apply Early Decision 2 to Emory because my dean doesnt think I have very much of a chance of getting in, as two other students from my are applying ED2 to Emory both with slightly higher SAT and GPAs than me. Additionally, my dean also advised me that if I did end up applying to Emory ED2 and not getting in, then I would possibly give up the chance of getting into BU regular decision, as a lot of people from my school apply there RD, which will flood the applicant pool from my school. Im not really sure if I should go for Emory, a school that I like better than BU, or play it safer with BU, even though I know I would be happy at both. Im unsure if have a decent chance at Emory, a reach, or If i should play it safe and apply to BU ED2? My GPA is a 3.83 W (sounds low for Emory I know but trust me its not, I go to a prestigious prep school whose average GPA for Emory is a 3.8), and an SAT of 2060 (670 CR 660 M 730 W), which is a little low for Emory and might be a problem when applying. EC’s and recs and both very solid.

If you were in my position, what would you do??

Also if my description was unclear in any way please response with your questions and I will be happy to clarify
Here is a list of everywhere Im applying too:
Boston College
USC
Boston University
Brandeis University
Emory University
SMU
Oxford College (of Emory)
Villanova University

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Go for Emory!!! Yolo

if emory is your top school go for it.

Practically speaking, you have a better shot at BU, but your idea of “settling” for it will likely make your “Why BU” essay SHINE with that feeling. I think ED should only be used for schools a student really, really wants to attend.

Not liking BU’s campus as much and preferring Emory’s IS an important thing–if you don’t love BU’s campus, you probably won’t change your mind. It can be a dealbreaker for a lot of kids. I looked at Emory’s ED thread and honestly I think you could have a shot. Your SAT is comparable to several accepted students and if your school is prestigious/competitive, Emory will know that. You’ll be far more likely to express a genuine desire to attend Emory in your supplements than you would for BU, which would make your app all around stronger.

You mention two other kids at your school applying EDII with stronger stats: so you have to outshine them in your supplements. If your essays are better than theirs and Emory decides to cap the number of kids they take from your school, maybe you could be one of them. Don’t discount yourself.

I agree with everyone above! Don’t tell anyone you can’t achieve something just because the others have higher stats than you. You seem really passionate about Emory so that can be used as your advantage. Plus, the stats aren’t always everything. You got this!

Thank for all of the reassuring comments!! I think I’m gonna go for Emory

this is a little late but definitely go for emory  your stats are a little low but if u have stellar essays and ECs you could definitely make it! ur stats make BU a very good match and i think u could definitely get into BU.
