Hey guys, I have a major question regarding deadlines and what's due on them.
When a school, say, Cornell says that its Regular Decision Deadline is Jan. 1, on that
day is EVERYTHING due, including supporting credentials (letters of rec, transcripts, etc.) or just the Common App submission?
Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Yes, as it says on Cornell’s admissions page all required application materials must be submitted by January 2nd including the common application, application fee, required test scores are sent, transcript, supplement, and any other necessary materials (such as architecture portfolios). Although things like letters of recs and school report/transcript are sent on the discretion of the teachers and counselor so it won’t be held against if they’re a week or 2 late.

What they say is that the additional stuff is supposed to be postmarked by that date except possibly test scores since Cornell accepts the Jan SAT test. As to actual practice, they usually accept things which arrive before mid-Jan. Nevertheless, since some high schools can take forever to send a transcript and the the writers of letters of recommendation can often take a long time to send the letters, it is very important for you to be taking care of those starting immediately if you have not done so already. Waiting until the last week of Dec to request such things can be a disaster including because your high school will likely be closed, and your counselor gone and the teachers who need to write rec letters may be in the Caribbean on vacation.

Oh man. Thank you guys so much, this really took a load off me.
By the way, so I just have to postmark my supporting credentials, transcript, and letters of rec by the deadline and I’ll be fine?

Yep. 10 char

Thanks a lot!!!

Hey! Sorry, I still don’t fully get the deadlines and what’s due on them… Would you guys mind explaining a couple of things?
Everything but my transcript and counselor letter of recommendation is going to be sent to schools with their Jan. 1 deadlines, but I get back to school on the 2nd of January. On this day, the transcripts and counselor letter of recommendation should be postmarked.

Will this be good for the colleges’ deadlines?

Thank you!!!

Colleges expect all materials that the applicant to control to be postmarked by the deadline. They expect all other materials (transcript, LOR, test scores) to be sent within a “reasonable” time period of the deadline and will not punish the applicant if they are slightly late.

If materials are late, it will not immediately doom the application, although it will be negatively impacted. If Sasha Obama sent her application to Cornell on Jan. 4, I am confident that she would be accepted. If she sends it on March 4, I would be more doubtful.
