URGENT question about HOUSING

I applied for on campus housing the first day the applications were available (4/17/07) w/o payments yet (as you have to manually mail it) but at Open House on 4/20/07 they said all housing was booked up already. I panicked and talked to a few of the administraters there and I got multiple answers.

The main gist of the answers I got were that if I submitted my application within the first 2800 applicants then I have housing on campus (which I think I did as I applied the day of…) and that they had to cut off applications after 2800. However, the site says housing is based on first-come-first-serve once the money desposit is in their hands. Since my payments haven’t reached them, does this mean I can’t live on campus? Or did I guarantee a spot on campus and money deposits are dependant on dorm preference?

I talked to some of the housing reps there and was told that both the time of the online app (which was datestamped) and the time they recieved the check determined your position with housing (how so, I don't know) I also learned that students that have already submitted their SIR recieved priority

I also called them tuesday about having sent my check non-express and they said that I should be fine and that it usually took 2 wks for it to fill. However it only took a single day to fill this year and when I asked one of the staff there about it during open house, they still said I should be fine.. I dont know, though...
Also heard about many of the off-campus housing locations getting hit hard with students.. Hopefully we'll know our status by wednesday. good luck to you and everyone else

i sent my check on the 17 via regular mail but they still havent gotten it. Should i be worried?

I did the same. no, you shouldnt be worried
but I sure am

I got a confirmation email saying they received my payment and I have a spot already.

Still no confirmation here :(

Just received a confirmation email!

well i sent in my menincognical (sp?) form and my payment/license seperately. They got the medical form, which i know cuz theres that green check next to menincognical form on the housing website, but the site says they havent recieved my payment still. So for the people who got the confirmation, did u pay with check, credit card or financial aid?

I used e-check.

Check mailed on the 18th via regular post office mail.

OKAY I called and was on the phone for about 20 min. What was said to me was if you applied on 4/17/07, do not worry as they are giving people who applied on the 17th time for their money to come in. Also, first priority goes to those who already submitted their SIR. What was also said was by 4/18/07, they had number of applications for housing exceeded the amount of space they had. Therefore, people on the 17th and who have submitted their SIR have first priority.

I got confirmation (mailed $ fed-ex the same day, 17th), but what is SIR?

SIR is Statement of Intent to Register. This form means that you plan to attend the school.

filled out the app on the 17th, sent out the menincognical form and license/payment the following morning via regular first class mail. they recieved the form yesterday, and today i just got a confirmation email.

Yay, I got housing, and I sent my check on Tuesday.

Unfortunately...

Dear Student,

As of today, all on-campus housing spaces for new incoming students have
been secured by students who have fully completed the steps needed to secure
on-campus housing. These steps include:

Submit the on-line housing application

Make the housing payment

Mail in the License Agreement

'Accept' Cal Poly's admission

As of April 27, 2007 your admissions "acceptance" has not been submitted to
Cal Poly and at this time we can no longer accept additional students into
on-campus housing for Fall 2007. Your application and payment have been
received, but as you know, on-campus housing is not guaranteed and is
offered on a first-come, first-served basis to those who apply, pay, and
commit to the University. Because we do take into account projected
cancellations, we do not maintain a waiting list and you are highly
encouraged to seek off campus housing utilizing the recommendations listed
below.

In order for us to process a housing refund to you, please reply back to
this e-mail with the following message: "Please cancel my housing
application and return my full housing payment" Please include your Full
Name, Mailing Address, and Student/University ID.

Sincerely,
Housing and Residential Life
Cal Poly SLO

Weird thing is I did everything. I applied for housing on the 18th which already showed a warning that it was reaching capacity. I turned in the agreement and payment on open house day at cal poly (friday). I did the acceptance link although I never actually clicked the accept link (can someone verify if their's looks like this: http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/3844/screenhunter01apr280017np5.jpg). When I go to it it already says I accepted, according to the title. I'm going to call on monday April 30 right before that May 1 deadline, cutting it close lol.

I think you waited to long to turn in your agreement and payment. First come first serve is based on that and yeah that's what it looks like after you accept.

KCE, it may be because you applied on the 18th. I think it's ridiculous how quickly housing filled up, but a woman at the Housing Office said by the 18th, the number of applicants who sent in their housing applications had already exceeded the amount of space they had left. As for turning in your check on Friday the 20th, and still not getting housing, the lady told me that people who applied on the 17th and had already accepted their SIR will have first priority and will be given time to send in their checks. Maybe that's why you got screwed; I would apply as quickly as possible to some of their apartments now. I hear Stenner Glen a lot but I've also heard bad things about that one. Look into Valencia or Mustang Village; I was thinking of doing Valencia if I didn't get in to housing. Best of luck.

i didnt get housing =[
does anyone gonna live at mustang village? how is it there?
