Urgent question about interview :0

Do I need to have the supplement portion done by 12/10 in order to be eligible for an interview?

yes.
new question: does this mean 11:59 tonight or tomorrow (12/10) night?

Technically yes. If there's an interviewer in your area you might get one even if you turn it in late, though. I didn't submit my Duke application until December 20-something and still got an interview.

LL, it would be tomorrow night.

100th post!

I don't know that if it's different from Early Decision, but I sent my Duke application two days after the deadline and still got an interview.

Interviews aren't required to be completed until mid-February for regular decision, so my thought is that they will try to assign you an interviewer whenever possible even if your app comes in a little late. How can they possibly go through all the apps immediately at deadline anyway? I wouldn't sweat it--if you get an interview, great. If you don't, then don't worry. Sometimes students are from areas where there are no interviewers anyway and they never get one. It is optional in the application process, though if you get contacted about an interview, I would encourage you to do it if at all possible. Good luck.

If I send in the common app plus the supplement today but everything else (teacher recs, score reports, etc.) doesn't reach them yet I'd still be making the deadline right?

you just need either the common app OR the supplement. They would rather you perfect that "Why Duke" essay than rush it to get an interview.

venkater, are you sure? where did you find out you could turn in the common app?

I posted this on another thread topic. Maybe this will help. It is from the Duke website:
"Duke uses the Common Application plus the following supplementary forms: the Student Supplement (Form A) and the School Report Supplement (Form B). You may submit Form A before or with the Common Application, and you should include your non-refundable $75 application fee (payable to Duke University) or fee waiver request with the form. You can apply either on paper or on-line. Click on the tabs below for more information about each application method."

I think the previous poster meant to submit either part to get the process going. However, I believe all parts of the application must be in by the RD deadline date. If you are just talking about submitting the supplement so you get on the interview list, then that is different. Maybe they just need that to open your file and get you assigned to an interviewer before the last minute.

Dear ____:

Guess I'm wrong and you need to have the Duke supplement in by today. :(
