Urgent Question About MIT Application/Physics

Due to scheduling issues, I was not able to take a physics course in high school.

Due to sanity/time issues, I am not able to teach physics to myself at the present or take a physics class outside of school (my plate is already overflowing with things that are very important to me!)

I am deeply interested in MIT for its excellent social science departments, and I enjoy science (I have taken multiple years of chemistry) but do not intend to major in a hard science/engineering.

For someone that really knows (e.g. benjones, a current student, etc.): Is it absolutely pointless for me to apply to MIT with no experience in physics? Are there no introductory courses at MIT that I could take? Could I try to study it the summer after my senior yr in high school?

Though I sincerely hope that this single hole doesn't sink my chances, please be brutally HONEST! I don't want to get my hopes up or submit the application if I have no chance of being admitted...

You could totally apply without experience in physics. I mean, it'd help, but isn't necessary. There's even a special version of 8.01 for people with little-no exposure to physics pre-MIT (8.01L). Don't let something like that keep you from applying, especially if you haven't taken physics because you were involved in something else you love.

I actually know (because I am a creepy stalker) that Mollie (aka molliebatmit) didn't take physics in high school, and she got in to MIT and did super-awesomely. So yeah, I wouldn't freak out too much about it.

Thanks so much guys! The MIT dream is still alive!

Well, but I didn't do super-awesomely in physics! :)

I would advise trying to do at least some self-study (or a summer community college class, or something) if you get in and decide to come. It's not a deal-breaker not to have any physics, but it's not exactly the most fun thing in the world to be learning physics for the first time in a classroom full of people who "only" got 4's in AP Physics.

As Timur mentions, 8.01L is a physics class for people without much exposure to physics/calc in high school, and it is also an excellent choice for someone who comes in with little or no experience with physics.
