Hi guys I'm really struggling to decide between these schools. I am leaning towards Dyson because I want to apply for business but the acceptance rate is abysmal. I have a 3.7-3.8 GPA with a 1440/1600 SAT and I doubt I qualify for Dyson. However I believe my stats are better for ILR (please don't bash me for saying this this but I'm leaning towards ILR not only because of my grades but because ILR is really flexible and will allow me to take courses in Dyson as well). My common app essay is about creating my first little business of selling origami and how it led to my affinity for social interaction and my Cornell supp deals with my leadership as Ping Pong president and how it relates to business(executed pretty well, sounds general now because I'm just giving the gist of it)
I really need help in deciding. I might want to go into law while doing business so going to ILR will be more beneficial in the long run. However, I want to know if my essays fit with what ILR is looking for. Business, from what I've heard, is not a huge part of ILR and I don't want to write about law because I'm not 100% sure I want to dwell in that. Or should I include my interest in law? Please help me decide based on my brief background guys! I have until Saturday to submit my entire application and I'm stressing out!

My opinion: If you do not SINCERELY want ILR, they can smell it a mile away.

To be honest, ILR was my initial choice. Realizing that Dyson is more geared towards my interests is what made me reconsider. However, now that the deadline approaches, I’m starting to reconsider ILR. 1. If I want to do law and business, I could do that easily in ILR. 2. I could take classes in Dyson without my schedule in ILR being affected too much 3. everything ties into ILR being the more flexible option
I think I just answered my own question but I still don’t know if my essays/grades reflect my desire to go there.

From your post it seems like you honestly don’t know what you want to do, but whatever it is you just want to do it at Cornell. You have to make sure they don’t get this impression.

looks like Dyson is more for you

do what you want to do. if IRL and their focus is not your thing, then don’t apply. Go to Dyson if you are interested into business, which it looks like you are.

Write an essay about law (especially labor law) and apply to ILR. After you get in, you can always transfer. AEM is very competitive during the ED round because most recruited athletes get admitted to AEM. AEM also takes a lot of transfers second year. As an internal transfer, you will have a very good chance if you maintain good GPA.
