Hi all,

I am looking to take Bio 2 and Bio 2 lab this semester. The honors Bio 2 class and non-honors class is taught by the same professor. Unfortunately, all the Bio 2 labs are at the same time as the honors Bio 2 class. Would it be better to postpone the lab (most people say to not take bio 2+lab because the lab is basically a class of its own here but I don't have anything else to fill my schedule with) or just have one less honors course on my transcript? In terms of difficulty, I've heard there is no significant difference between honors/non honors since it's the same professor.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

honor courses dont matter in terms of med school applications. just take the regular one and the lab.

are you sure there isn’t an honors lab you’re missing? You’re telling me no one at your school can take honors bio and bio lab concurrently?

Right, no one can take bio 2 honors and the lab concurrently. You can, however, take bio 2 nonhonors and the lab concurrently. It’s a really stupid setup but every lab has a lecture component. This lecture component is taught all at one time to all bio 2 lab students in a massive lecture hall and then the lab component of the lab is at different times for everyone in like groups of 20. So, the lecture component of the lab is at the same time as the bio 2 lecture course if that makes any sense :p

I second trapezius.
It does not matter at all.
D. took non-honors Gen. Chem and ended up being hired as an SI, the job that she had for 3 years. Defifnitely benefitted her. Maybe non-honors Bio will benefit you also in one way or another, nobody knows.

Thank you both for your responses, I truly appreciate them! I actually talked to an adviser who gave me some insight that the Bio 2 Lab will be changing next semester. The way it is now, the content of the lab is completely irrelevant to any other course required for Bio/Biochem/pre-med. After hearing this, I decided to postpone the lab and stick with honors Bio 2.

And for anyone who may read this, the above posters are completely on point. I chose non-honors Bio 1 over honors last semester and my professor was absolutely amazing. In a class of over 375, I developed a personal relationship with him that has served me well in LORs and connections into research. It really is what you make of it.

" It really is what you make of it" - You are absolutely correct.
