Hi, I'm applying for transfer to Stanford University.

I am currently a freshman at Caltech.
I applied to Stanford last year and got waitlisted, eventually rejected.
I sent them my grades last year, except for end of year grades (in other words, I sent forms 3 and 3A (or rather my counselor did)).

Question:

Do I need to send form 3 this year which asks for info from my high school counselor (along with transcripts), or do I just need to send the transcript for my 4th year grades (which is the one they don't have)? It says in their instructions, and I quote:

"- If you are applying for transfer admission, you do not need to submit a new Secondary School Report if one was submitted within the last three years from the high school from which you graduated.

If you were a previous freshman applicant and are now applying for transfer admission, you will need to submit your final high school transcript to us; in most instances we will have the final high school transcripts for transfer applicants who applied within the last three years."

I don't understand (or rather I'm not 100% sure). Do I need to send another secondary school report if they already got it when I applied as a freshman but DIDN'T get my end of fourth year grades?

I think the answer is yes, but if so, do I just plain and simple send them my transcript? In an envelope? With no forms or anything else from the school / counselors?

Please, I need to know soon, because my high school is overseas and I just found out my window for getting any forms filled out and sent opens this monday (tomorrow practically) and closes the next day when my counselor is leaving on business and won't be back before it's too late. (that's why I said it's urgent, I need to know by tomorrow night)

I'm reading it as, you don't. Even if you do, make sure to call them the moment they open monday and make sure. They'll forgive you being somewhat late with a new transcript if they already have something in your file, I think.

Hm, thanks, but I need more opinnions in order to decide? Anyone else have any thoughts?

Has anyone had a similar experience with another school? Please, this is pretty important and yet somehow I completely overlooked it (for some reason I assumed that I'd have to get the form filled)...

I would call and ask...its not worth missing something because you don't want to call

but my guess is you DONT need a Secondary School Report, but DO need a new high school transcript showing final grades

But comeon, you shouldn't be basing your actions on "opinions" on something this important. Call Stanford, they're great people out there willing to help. Don't rely on this board's "thoughts" as people are often very very wrong.

haha uh I really don't plan on posting nearly as much once I'm gone somewhere. I would hope I'm having a great time and have too much time to be as active as I am now, but I will always be checking back occassionally and look forward to helping people that contact me through PMs.

I'll check back for sure next year so I can see how ya do. ;)

Nah, i'm active on the Engineering board, which contributes a lot =P no sympathy, most of my posts are in masses over a period of a couple hours every few days...i just like crusing around and calling people idiots like this guy here because they wont spit out an email or a call to the admissions office on such a big issue like this that no one would have a clue about

To the OP: my S applied to Stanford as a transfer, having also applied as a freshman.

He had the final transcript sent. I don't believe you need to send the forms 3 and 3a (altho I can't see those forms online right now), if they are the Secondary School rept and counselor rec.

Just have your school send the transcript.

It's also fine to call Stanford Admissions - they aren't necessarily the warmest and fuzziest I've ever talked to, but they won't put a black mark on your file for your having asked. And it will be ok if these materials get there a little later than your actual application.

Thanks guys, especially jmmom. I was hoping for that kind of reply. Best of luck to your S.

The reason I don't just "call the office" is that its cutting it amazingly close to missing my last chance of actually getting these forms filled back in europe. If I call the office at, say 8:30 am on monday (tomorrow), its already 17:30 (thats 5:30PM) back where I am and my folks might not be able to get to the person that has to fill the forms (and the last day they can do it is on that day). Otherwise I wouldn't even bug you with silly questions like that.

I think this topic is done unless someone can contradict jmmom, or confirm it by saying they did this and with actual results from last year.

Thanks again... (and I will call to make sure, I'll just get the form filled anyway, probably... I'll see)
