Urgent Question: Re: Test Grades in MAC 2512

Does Edwards curve the test grades at all? I took a test today and it was out of 30 points. The test was significantly harder than any of his practice exams. I'm thinking I got around a 24/30 uncurved (I made a few stupid mistakes). Does he give either 0,1, or 2/2 for the short answer questions, or does he give 1.5/2, etc? Once he sees that his exam was fairly hard (which everyone who was looking at them in the hall was saying how hard it was), do you (from experience) know if he will curve it at all?

He grades based on partial credit. He might curve if the class average is unusually low, which is sometimes the case. I'm not too sure. You can ask him though, he won't get annoyed about it.

I heard he gives no partial credit???

He did in the course I took with him. I'm not sure about 2512, but it would be hard to imagine that he would grade solely on whether your answer is right or wrong.

I was readying the Rate My Professor reviews on him and some of them said that the "no partial credit policy KILLS test scores!" and other such reviews. Now, I'm scared.

I would take everything you read on ratemyprofessors with a grain of salt (if it were a "policy" then Edwards would have mentioned it in class, did he?). If you are really concerned, I would ask Edwards after class or during office hours.

Does he usually take long to grade the exams?

That's another question... do his TAs grade the exams?

My class was small, so he got it back to us pretty quickly.

For 2512, the TA's probably grade them. Not sure how quickly though.

I've never been more (happily) surprised by an exam. I received a 27/30 on the exam (the TAs grade them). But, as I suspected, the exam was hard... I saw one kid with a 28 and everyone else had <=22. A lot of us were talking about the exam outside, so I saw probably 80% of the discussion class. There was no curve on the exam.

If there is a curve, it would be done at the end of the term when all grades are in. Very few professors curve each individual test.
