Hi
I'm doing "Topic of my choice" for my common app...
and I was wondering if I should write the question at the top or not.
I think I should put the question at the top, BUT!!!
What if the question is from another college's application??
any one??

I know a few people who took an essay from Amherst or whatever and submitting it as the "Topic of my choice" cause they thought it really showed their writing skills and their personalities. I think it's okay. (And yes, you should put the question/prompt at the top of the essay)

What do you mean by "words describing the topic"? As in the title of the essay or the prompt such as "You're writing a 300 word autobiography. Give us page 217." and such? I would think it wouldn't be counted and either way, it's a small number of words. I would hope adcoms are not that nit-picky!

yeah. i mailed my common app out and i did "topic of my choice" like i had a title and all, but i didn't take a prompt from another app or anything. it was just like a personal statement/random musings.

U must sort off like put in a title not a prompt question..... that wud be gud.....also the page 217 biography thing is of upenn and is of a 500 word limit not 300

I know it's UPenn's question, but a few people have used it in the Common App since they thought it showed their personality better than other essays they wrote.

The thing is, i wrote a random essay for the common app, but I really like it. it doesnt really answer any question though...so should i just MAKE up a question or what? I'm confused. Do i have to have a title?

Case's Essay Prompt # 1
Mark Twain is attributed with the statement, "I have never let school interfere with my education." At Case, education is not confined to classrooms, labs, and libraries. Tell us about a memorable learning experience you've had that happened outside the classroom.

I answered this prompt and I wanted to use it for my common app.. not because i'm lazy but i thought the essay manifested the learning experience and how it influenced me very well...

so I checked #6 Topic of your choice on common app and wrote...
"The most memorable learning experience outside the school"

I didn't write a prompt. Most essays are just personal statements anyways. If they like your essay, I doubt they'll reject you because you didnt say what question you were answering.
