Urgent question regarding summer

Is it worth it to do a one week summer program at Brown for $2,000? Summer extra-curricular wise?

Because the last week is starting the 21st, and my parents planned a NY college trip the same week and thinking of cancelling because I'm interested in the summer program.

And finally, if I am not able to do it is there anything else you'd recommend me to do instead that would be a good summer extra curricular activity on a resume (besides volunteering).

Thanks!

if you have the money and time to do it, probably wouldn't hurt, especially if you're thinking of applying to Brown.

and if you cant do it, an internship at a local office always looks good.

If you're really interested in the program and can afford it, go for it.

But DON'T take it because you think it will help you get into Brown; the impact of those programs on admissions is very minor.

If the Brown program really interests you, then do it. Just realize that it's unlikely to help you get into Brown. Such programs are basically money makers for the colleges, not tickets to admission.

If there's something else you'd prefer doing, then do that.

Programs like those favor the those higher on the socioeconomic ladder. Since such an expensive opportunity at Brown cater to a select group of the population, its not like its going to help you at all in admissiosn since its not fair all around to everyone who might want to try it out moneywise.
