Lets say you got into Brown but there was another college that you really wanted to go to but got rejected. Could you defer from a college for a year (gap year), do something, and apply while to schools during that time? I guess what im asking is can you ensure that if you still get rejected you will still end up in a school, just to keep all your bases covered? Brown’s great, I’m just not sure its the right fit

I think it states somewhere that you may defer admission a year if you're not enrolling at other institution. I guess you could just go to Brown and still apply as a freshman to other school or transfer? Why don't you transfer instead?

You want to accept admission to Brown, defer for a year, and apply elsewhere in the interim, but 'hold a place' at Brown in case you did not get admitted to the other school?

It feels a little shady, but I don't think it is against any rule.
