Urgent question = )

i have a friend who got a D in precalculus, her second semester of senior year, and she plans on attending UC Davis. how much trouble is she going to have, getting UC Davis to look past this? She wrote them a letter today…is there a good chance she’ll be rejected or viseversa?

Thanks a lot guys.

It depends on how early she notified them of the grade, how convincing her letter is, and how her overall performance during senior year compared to that of previous years.

That said, UC Davis will probably let her get away with one D, as long as it's well-explained.

oh, i dont think she wrote much lol...she basically wrote a brief paragraph. We'll see how it goes, but i'm pretty sure her overal senior grades do not reflect the more impressive grades she had soph/junior year......she probably has a 2.5 now, compared to the 3.5 she has had the rest of hs

lol this is same thing im facing now

Hey guys, I have news for you: chill.

A couple days ago, I got a phone call and an email excusing me of the 3(!) D's I got senior year (both semesters of Physics, second semester of AP Calc AB). I asked if they needed a letter of explanation... they said no.

I'm a happy camper :)

o_o!! Wow, 3? How did you pull that off? Are your frosh-junior grades uberhigh or something?

Either way: mad skills, man, mad skills.

Actually, they were uber-low. My unweighted GPA up to junior year was 2.7. My unweighted senior year GPA ended up at around 2.3. I guess a drop of 0.4 doesn't qualify as a "marked decline" in performance. If my grades had been really good, on the other hand... then I might've been in trouble :P

Then...but, you were the one who got into Cal but picked UCD, right? Wow, you must have some strong ecs/extenuating factors (: Not to be offensive, just going off of Cal's 'history' of acceptances based on numbers, and so on and so forth.

Got into Cal? Hah, I wish. I was rejected by Cal, UCLA, and UCSD :P

no, oz's the 2300+ guy.

Ohhh...sorry, my bad. I got you mixed up with someone else, then. I remember now

Sorry!

So my D+ in Calculus BC AP will be fine for the second semester? Because that is the only D i have in my report card.

did you notify davis? if not, do so asap.

I got message and it said this:

Thank you for your email update. It is very disconcerting to hear that you
have not upheld your conditions of admissions. But, after careful
evaluation and discussion of your profile, the review committee has
approved of your ONE failing grade. That means that you will have to
uphold all your other admissions of conditions or else there may be harsher
repercussions.

Sincerely,
Undergraduate Admissions

So you see they accept my D+ am i right?

Oh wow, really? Then the letters must not be automated, because my friend got this one:

"Thank you for your correspondence re: D grade in AP ******. A review has been completed and approved as long as this is the only D or F grade you received your senior year. This specific change does not jeopardize your UC Davis admission.

Remember to send your official final transcript(s) by July 15, 2006 in
order to verify your academic information. We look forward to seeing you in the Fall.

Sincerely

No, the letters appear to have been written individually. Just for the record, mine started out like this:

After careful consideration of your 2005-2006 academic record and/or recent correspondence, we have decided to uphold your admission to UC Davis for the fall 2006 term.

In accepting our offer of admission and submitting your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR), you agreed to satisfy our Conditions of Admission. You were expected to maintain the same academic rigor and excellence upon which we based our admission decision. Given your circumstance, we have approved the following exception:

I'm pretty sure this means: "Well, your grades were pretty crappy before, and it looks like you've maintained this level of crappiness, so no harm done." :P

Wow, they actually wrote them individually. Go fig, eh?

nice oz, lol.
