Urgent Question

I got off of the wait list at the University of Miami literally a few days ago. Before that, I was making a decision between Drexel and Temple. My deposit at both schools is due 5/1. Miami said that I should receive my financial aid packet this week, and I have until 5/5 to respond to their offer. Miami is my top choice but I really can't pay full tuition so I have to wait to see if they offer any financial aid.

My question is, what should I do?

I am figuring I can do two things. I could send in my deposit at Drexel or Temple and then if I decide on Miami I can withdraw from Temple or Drexel. I'm not really sure if that is even allowed, though. Obviously, because some people are going to the schools they get wait listed at, there has to be an accepted process in place to go about this. My other option is to just enroll at UM and if the financial burden ends up being too much, transfer out after my freshman year.

I really need some advice on what to do here...

I suggest your first option of sending in a deposit. If UM comes through and is affordable then withdraw from the other school. You'll lose the deposit though.

+1. Send in the deposit to Temple or Drexel (whichever you prefer). See what UM offers. Then decide. Compared to the amount of time and effort (not to mention money) you'll invest over the next 4 years, a deposit you could lose is a small insurance payment.

Or before mailing the deposit (or paying it online) on Monday, contact the UM finaid office. If the letter is in the mail, they may be willing to discuss their offer with you over the phone.

Option #3: Go to Miami, and if they don't give you enough money, do work-study and find private scholarships.

It's up to you. Whatever you want to do.

I really want to go to Miami. I just can't imagine putting the burden of 50k per year on myself and my family. Hopefully they at least offer something.
