Urgent questions concerning the Common App!

Additional Info.----Should I state the fact that one of my parents has had Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS) since I was 3 and that's has seriously affected our family income? And if yes, how should I state it?

Teacher's Recomendation----Due to the fact that I currently live and study abroad, my teachers are not quite familiar with the Common App, and they want me to ask if the letter needs to be typed, signed, and then scanned, or if a typed DOC with a typed signature would do.

Thank you =)

Yes; straight-up tell them and explain clearly how it’s affected you (I’m being a little vague here because I’m not sure quite HOW you should say it, but definitely mention it.)

You should ask your guidance counselor about this. I know for me the methods varied, but ultimately I had to send in paper all my recommendations to my guidance counselor to send out. I know there’s like the “School Forms” section you could also supposedly electronically fill out, so just check with your guidance counselor pretty much.

@bluewind:Thank you, the only problem is that schools in China don’t have guidance counselors…

In international schools, where guidance counselors are rare, you can ask another school official to play the role of guidance (principal, teacher). If you do get a hardcopy written letter from a teacher, you can print out the common app teacher evaluation form (found in the “Download Forms” section on commonapp.org for them to fill out and mail in with their hardcopy letter. If they are handing your the hardcopy letter, you should print a cover letter with an explanation and also include all the basic info that is on the common app teacher eval form so colleges can associate this letter with your application. It would be more clear if you provided your teachers with the hardcopy common app form, and then they can attached their letter to it. You would also want to give them an addressed envelop with the appropriate international postage for each college that will get this envelop.
