Ok so I would appreciate an answer to this ASAP…as it is 8 PM and i need to know before I got to sleep. In SEAS, is there any english requirement besides the writing requirement. The AP Eng test is tomorrow…and Im thinking it might be worthless to take cause first of all a 5 will be crazy hard to pull when Im not an english kid, and second of all whats the point if the credit I get is worthless. I thought maybe I could use the credits towards applying for a dual degree, but I emailed someone at Penn SEAS (Ellen Eckert, whos like the head academic advisor or something) and she said AP doesnt count for that…you need 8 course units actually completed at Penn…so that sucks. In any case…can anyone answer my question…with near certainty…are there any english requirements for SEAS besides the freshman writing requirement? Thanks guys

seas only has a writing requirement. past that, there's only the ssh requirements, which may be satisfied with english courses, or courses in many other liberal arts disciplines. the total number of courses required here, counting the writing course, is 5.

i think its 7 actually...7 ssh courses

it depends on major. as a be student, i only have 5 required credits of ssh; every other engineering field (cbe, ee, cse, mse, meam) has 7.

so is it worth taking the ap english test...a friend of mine whos a frosh now said its not because even if you manage to get credit for one of your electives, you dont wanna od that because the SSH classes are a good way to take what you just want to take and they boost your gpa

i didn't bother with ap english; it really depends on whether you'd want to take non ssh classes, in which case having a free elective credit is nice.

however taking ssh courses really makes the difference as far as broadening your college experience - i'm looking forward to taking mine.
