URGENT! Single-Sex Floors?

Hi, I’ll be a freshman at Amherst this fall and I’m in the process of filling out my Housing Questionnaire (due June 15th). I see there is an option for a single-sex floor. Can anybody give me more information on this option? Some of my questions/concerns are: 1. Is this a popular option, or is it a very small minority that live on single-sex floors? 2. Do the single-sex floors attract a certain type of personality (i.e. all girls that are afraid of boys, all quiet/shy/antisocial girls that don’t party, etc.)? 3. Does living on a single-sex floor change your first-year experience? It seems like the co-ed floors are like little families, very close-knit groups that have a lot of fun together.
Any sort of info would be much appreciated!

rising sophomore here. it’s definitely not a popular option. this year there was only one single-sex floor (for females) located on the first floor of stearns, a substance-free dorm. there were maybe like 10-16 girls on that floor and it was very, very quiet all year. i didn’t really get to know any of them personally, so i can’t say anything about their personalities, but from the few i interacted with briefly, they seemed like very sweet people. i mean, if you really want a single-sex floor and it turns out to be too quiet for your taste, you can always just wander to a different floor in your dorm–there’s bound to be one with people talking out in the common room.
