Urgent: Standford Art Supplement

EDIT: Nevermind! Apparently online portfolios are not accepted at all. That's a shame, but I guess I'll have to rely on my regular application.

On CommonApp, there's a section where I can provide a URL to my portfolio. However, I believe Stanford says they want the portfolio mailed directly to them by the deadline (Dec 1st).

Can I just send my art supplement through CommonApp since I don't think my mail is going to reach them in time? And plus my teacher was planning on sending me the doc file for a rec letter online and there's no time for her to prepare a signed envelope.

Stanford will only take portfolios that are mailed to them with the proper forms, they require all the work to be printed out. On the upside, the mail has to be postmarked by the deadline, not received at Stanford. If you search Stanford Art Supplement they have a pdf that details everything they want

my art teacher had previously written me a rec and she emailed it to my counselor, who then gave it to me in a sealed envelope. (waived right to read recs) you can ask your art teacher to email it to your counselor, and seeing today is the deadline if your counselor is feeling nice have him/her mail it separately and put your name on it. (or just have your art teacher mail it if you didn’t waive your right to read)

i suggest just mailing everything in one envelope as they ask. if you submit the common app art supp. online you still have to upload the resume and rec, so it’s redundant. check the “i will submit via paper” option and print it out.

for future applicants submitting the drawing/painting portfolio: i was confused about the “prints” they ask for because i thought prints are some special artsy thing you have to go to a professional company for. turns out it literally is just images of your work printed out. you can use a normal colored printer on regular 8.5x11 paper (cross your fingers it has good ink) or print the images out on photo paper, like you print regular pictures.

the latter option is way more expensive if you can get the printing done at your school for free. however, i did the photo thing at fedex because i thought it represented my work better. note it cuts off a portion on your work on the 8x10 option if the image is square. didn’t subtract much from my work but still annoyed me. the quality was swell, though.
