Stanford requires payment and supplement submitted before you can submit an application. I just submitted my supplement. Then, I submitted my payment with a credit card, but the effective date of payment according to the site is 1/4. This means that the payment will not process on Common App website, and I will not be able to submit my app. Realize, it is New Year's Eve, so I do not have the ability to postmark anything. What should I do? THANKS you could be saving an app by helping me. My idea thus far is to check off the mail check box on payments, but I do not know what this entails. Will I need to postmark the check that I mail? ANY HELP APPRECIATED. THANKS.

Same boat, I went ahead and submitted mine.
The common app website says the record everything, which means that they will record that the transaction was filed on 12/31, even if it didn’t process till 1/4.
I don’t think a couple days is a big deal, and if it is, you can always ask for a refund.

Mailing it won’t really help. The mail doesn’t run on 1/1, so it’ll be post marked 1/2 at the earliest. I would just go ahead an submit online.

Did you click off mail check? It physically won’t let me submit unless the payment appears processed. Do you recommend checking off the mail check box?

Email Stanford. If you email them NOW explaining your situation, you won’t be behind on the deadline, and I can’t imagine them docking you for it. Usually admissions offices are pretty nice about events out of your control (a similar thing happened with my Olin application, and I still made it through the first round).

Except that they won’t be there to answer you.

Ah, ok. Thanks Secret: that tells you where to go: to the Common app tech staff. And after reading that, I’d recommend you do what you have to to get the application sent in.

When they reply, please post your findings!

After sending the payment the credit card way, I did not want to gamble with the processing time. Thus, I just checked off the mail check box. I’m going to mail a check tomorrow, and the credit card stuff might go through. If it does, I will notify Stanford and see what they want me to do. I don’t think they’ll take $180 from me (credit card and check). If they did, I’m pretty sure that I could cancel one or the other. That is my conclusion.

newandimproved…did you successfully submit your application that way?

You can’t mail stuff on New Years.

It successfully allowed it to go through. I know I can’t mail stuff on New Years Day. Perhaps the credit card will go through, and it will work out. If that fails, well I do have the voucher that I printed tonight. I’ll send that in an envelope with a check. I really don’t think anyone is that heartless where they won’t accept my application because I sent two payments in one day before the deadline…

Here’s what Duke was telling applicants:

i have the same problem except NYU doesn’t have mail check option.
i have no idea what to do! help?!

Maybe scan your app and email. Mail it tomorrow too. Try other fee waiver option. That’s what I’d do.

chsowlflax17 YOU ARE A LIFESAVER

oh yay it worked! do you think the college would assume that i will be sending them the fee waiver mail even if they see i paid with a credit card?
i can just cancel it whenever the payment is processed, right?

Email common app support.

COMMON APPLICATION FEE PAYMENT & APPLICATION SUBMISSION PROBLEM

If you have been unable to submit your application because the Common
Application website has not processed your credit card payment, change
your fee payment option to “Check,” which will then allow you to
submit your application online. We regret this inconvenience and will
rectify the payment discrepancy next week.

yajooojay, thank you soooooo much!

You can try sending a check online as well, worked for us, and get a refund later (presumably!). Mail Check is a better option though.
