Urgent! Suggest second-tier/safety schools

can you give me a suggestion for a school
that's good, but not too bad that i can apply to almost as a safety school?

e.g. Berkshire or Avon Old Farms

It varies depending on your SSAT score, your grades, extracurriculars, etc.

[Boarding Schools with the Lowest Acceptance Rates - Boarding School Review](Most Selective Boarding Schools (2023))

Look into the schools with acceptance rate > 30, 40 or 50 (depending on whether you are an overall A, B or C student). Find a few that fit your requirements for location, size and course/sports offerings etc… Visit and shortlist.

A few wonderful but less spoken about schools (on here at least): Mercersburg, Blair, Northfield Mount Hermon, Grotton, Kent, Milton, Middlesex, Peddie, Loomis Chaffee…Those are the only ones I can pick out of my head.

SamanthaWH: Most of the schools you list are not ‘safety’ schools. And Groton is certainly not a ‘safety’ or ‘second tier’.

alextwoofour: Sorry, I’m simply listing less spoken of schools. Depending on the applicant you’re right they really might not be safety schools. Simply more options to look at.

SamanthaWasHere, of the schools you listed, Groton, Middlesex, and Peddie are listed on Boarding School review in the 15 schools with the lowest acceptance rate. Milton and Loomis Chaffee are in the ranking of 30 schools, out of 278 with the lowest acceptance rate.

The posters on this site tend to focus on a few schools. That doesn’t mean that any other school is “bad” or not selective. That anyone would list Groton as a possible safety school should make anyone wary of the reliability of the advice dispensed on the Prep School Admissions forum.

If the OP wants to expand his list of schools, I’d suggest he look at the Boarding School Review list of schools with a higher than 60% admission rate. Some schools aren’t on the BSR list, as they don’t publish their admission rate.

@Periwinkle, I appologize, clearly I’ve offended some people. That was most definitely not my intention. I was in no way trying to push that any of those schools were lesser than those commonly mentioned here. I know first hand just how selective these schools can be, trust me. I didn’t take the time to look up each acceptance rate of the schools I listed, which I probably should have done. I agree with your saying I was wrong in listing a few of those, I believe I just got carried away in listing a few lesser known (on here) but still super amazing and not in any way bad schools and didn’t take the time to look at the statistics behind them.

Once again, I appologize, please excuse my mistake.

I agree with your suggestion of the OP doing some research on Boarding School Review and checking out the admission rates. Although I think 60% might be a bit too far, I would start considering at 45-50% acceptance rate. But that’s a personal opinion, of course.
