I'm sorry, I know some are gonna say "why don't you just look it up?" but I cant seem to find the reliable source of info. To my knowledge, when teachers send rec's the colleges that receive the rec's make a folder of you and store it and then review them when you apply.

But one of my teachers, "speculates" that colleges throw them away unless I have applied before sending the rec's. Is this true at all? or was what I thought correct? I need reliable sources: links from primary sources preferred.

I NEED an answer my tonight, PLEASE help!! thank you

Your teacher is wrong -- most schools receive recs before any application or supplement has been received. They know that you can't control when teachers send the recs, so naturally they still file them.

It's what I always believed as well, but he did make some sense... even though I dont believe schools will just throw rec's away. Can you give me some evidence from sources? thanks

BUMP! cmon people! 50+ views, and 1 response?? I need this by 9 pm so I can notify this one teacher what to do with his rec's!!

^^It's not like you can easily find sources for your question. One would have to search every single college website because each school's policies are different. Collectively, however, most schools allow recs to be sent before your application arrives. They'll file everything until your application gets there. Besides, everything isn't due until the deadline...they can't throw away things you send before the deadline has even been reached. Just chill, please...

thank you for your help. I overreacted today after my teacher "speculated" this. Thank you and sorry
