Urgent: Too Late for Summer Internship?

Hello,

Well, I'm sort of panicking right now. Here's my situation:

I am a rising junior who has just realized I was completely short-sighted and foolish not to look for an internship earlier this year. I'd really like something for the summer, particularly along the lines of government, law, education or writing/journalism. I guess my question is, am I too late? I'm willing to devote this whole coming week to searching for something. I also may be stopping by my college this week so I can ask the career services office.

Also, if it is too late, does not having a summer internship this summer blow my chances of getting into an Ivy (or comparable) graduate school? I am sure I'll have a strong GPA (plus I'm at one of the Seven Sisters which may help) and also great test scores (I'm an excellent test taker for some reason), but I need other things as well.

Is having a fall internship and then an internship next summer enough?

ANY input/experience/anecdotes would be sooo incredibly appreciated.

Thanks.

What’s your major? What kind of grad school would you want (Masters? PhD? MBA? What field?)?

You have a shot at finding an internship. However, most “advertised” internships will have gone by now, and these are the types of internships that career offices will typically have. You can go ahead and talk to them anyway. Because of that, you may need to solicit internships (email companies asking if they would take an unpaid intern) as a last resort.

Also, you can talk to professors about doing research. Depending on what kind of grad school you want, this may be more important than an internship.
