Urgent Transfer Question!

Since Columbia and UIC are apparently beneath you, ask yourself the converse: why should a “prestigous” school like Penn want YOU? They have 1 seat for every 9 applicants, so what do you bring to the table? Are you head and shoulders above your peers, academically? Do you have unique talents?

You are living in a myopic fantasy. I say this not because you’re enamored with a certain school (which is fine) but becasue you’ve dispensed with reality in turn.

Yes. Keep thinking that.

You’ve categorically disregarded every useful suggestion and bit of constructive criticism on this thread and plowed onward with a hubristic arrogance. You think most schools are beneath you so I’ll offer a last bit of advice: expect rejections.

Well said caillebotte.

NYU used to be my first choice, then i thought it was too hard to get into, and then i thought it was too easy to get into tehe, i guess compared to an ivy yeah, my bad. NYU does have great alumni connections, and it has the city but no concise campus life, which is a little sad, but hey there is the city. Caillebottle, you really told me. I wanted to go to Columbia for a while a little while back, but i didn’t finish the app, and I got into to UIC but i decided to stick it out another year at C.C, considering how I got an F and some W. You could say I got high on Penn, but maybe it isn’t the most realistic choice for me.

oh and i called Penn and they said that I don’t have to submit a portfolio but that I am more than welcome to do so.

NYU is by far not an easy school to get into… They accept thousands of applicants out of… thousands of applicants. Do you even realize its in the biggest city in the US? Obviously out of the millions in NYC, you will have quite a few apply to NYU. As I recall the acceptance rate is around 33%. If you got into NYU, then I would consider it an impressive accomplishment.

Also, it seems to me you really don’t know what you want to do. Why would you want to get into extremely expensive schools and not know that your heart is in it for sure. If you merely have “an interest” in art, why would you apply to Penn, knowing that it would require $50,000 a year at least in tuition fees (unless you are incredibly rich). I mean what is your major right now?

Do your research. Find out more reasonable schools that have a great program that you would like. You are a great student - I don’t doubt that, but you need to understand that there are a lot of great students. There are literally thousands of wannabe applicants like yourself and college admissions are very callous. Pick a new list of colleges - ones that are more reasonable, then talk to us. Let this thread die so other transfers can get the appropriate information that they need.

I know its harsh, but TRUST ME, its a lot harsher when you get a flood of emails saying you didn’t get into so and so and end up having to settle. Its not a great feeling.

OP- With your attitude towards all these schools, you will be lucky to get in anywhere. UPenn is a crap shoot for anyone, so you need a better match.

I’ve decided to go to the University of Colorado at Boulder this spring 2010 where I’ve already been accepted.
