Okay, so I am from out of state and was just admitted off of the waitlist. I don't have a lot of time to make my decision but I would like to know what life is like at UCI if anyone has any input. Also, would I be okay without a car? Anything you could tell me about campus life at UCI would be helpful! Thanks!!

Most Freshman don’t have cars. It would be more unusual to bring one. Parking is very expensive and the shuttle system is good but it doesn’t run on weekends. Still, you can walk to campus in about 20 minutes from the off campus apartments and most of what you need is available in walking distance. Some have bikes. It’s a beautiful campus.

UCI is in a very safe neighborhood/city and it is really clean and quiet. Around UCI, there are a lot of many fun places you can go to, such as Disneyland, Irvine Spectrum (a town center filled with malls/food/game centers), the beach, many Asian stores/restaurants, etc. Also, you would be okay without a car because there are bus/shuttles for the UCI kids to take if you show them your card. A lot of freshman don’t bring their cars because it’s a hassle and it costs them like about $80 a month for them to get a permit…

Do you guys know how convenient it is to go to LA from irvine?? Is there any buses taking?

It’s not convenient without a car but there is a train from Irvine to Downtown LA. Nothing in So Cal is convenient by public transportation. It could be doable but difficult and probably not worth it.
