Hi! i am an international student that have been admitted by UCSD in fall 09. I sent them the transcript and they mail me a withdrawal letter saying i did not receive grade of B or better in one eng composition course. I took 2 english composition courses in SMC and received one A and one C. However, when i applied for UC, it did not state that i need to get english composition courses grade of B or better. I called the admission office and they say i actually i have to pass the english proficiency because i am an international student and TOEFL can do that. However, they said it is too late to take the TOEFL now! They told me i should have taken it before applying to the admission. I am trying to write an appeal letter to appeal their decision. The officers say my chance is very small, but i am giving it a try anyway. Does anyway encounter similar case? any good suggestion for how i should write the appeal letter? are there any methods that i can be re-admitted to the school?

explain your strengths and why you should be admitted. If you have good grades in comparison to that C, then you have a case or you might explain how you’ve maintained good grades in your other courses or your prereqs or whatever and this is just a deviation, you can try looking over your admissions contract and see if it pertains to stating that you need to maintain a certain grade, if it does and you have, then address this

Keep up the fight! Call admissions, go down there if you need to…I have a friend who was very persistent and he eventually got it!

That’s not right. They should inform International Students that they need to the TOEFL before they are even considered for admission. I would appeal, who knows maybe they will realize that you have the character to be a UCSD student and they’ll let you in. Don’t give up.

ask them if you can set up a meeting with them and keep requesting…you mite live really far, but hey its your future thats on the line.Going there mite be easier besides dealing with people on the phone. Dont give up if one person says you have no chance then try talking to another person. good luck:)
