[URGENT] Will an internal audit summer internship help with future IB recruiting?

Hi guys,

I am a sophomore and was just offered an internal audit internship at a relatively large company. The company is pretty big and established, but I don't think it carries much prestige in the name.

My goal is to get a good IB internship next summer (junior year), and was thinking of getting an internship at a boutique this summer. I've contacted a couple boutiques, and so far, no responses.

The person called me today with the internal audit offer, and gave me until tomorrow to decide, and I'm really torn. I want to do something more IB related, but so far I don't have any offer on the table.

One other reason that I'm not ecstatic about the offer is that it's in another city..

My question is, how much will an internal audit internship help with junior year IB recruitment? Should I take the job? Or should I decline and hope that I find something better?

Thanks guys!

It’s better than nothing. But honestly you really should strive for something more finance related, even if its not IBD.

I would keep trying for regional boutiques, F500 Corporate Finance internships, and Asset/Wealth/Investment Management roles.

Thanks for the reply icheetah90 (cool name, btw!)!

I’ve had a few wealth management internships in the past, but I didn’t do any finance related work, so I’m really trying to steer away from that. I was really interested in corporate finance internships, but wasn’t sure how to approach those companies (cold email/call?). Any advice on that?
