hey guys, although i know that Williams doesn't offer a summer waitlist and the waitlist thing for the Class of 2010 is already over, but, if someone doesn't turn up in the end of August this fall, will the admissions office still call up ppl who have previously been rejected from the waitlist to attend Williams? i know this is how it works for Harvard and other highly selective universities? do u guys know anything about Williams process? any input would be much appreciated! Thanks!

sorry no idea but why don't you call the admissions office and ask?

I tried calling, but no one ever picks up the phone...maybe that's cos' it's summer holiday? I'm an international student btw...

Hmm... You might be right. Yet there should be someone. Just send them an e-mail. If they are away, you will get an automatic message telling when they will be returning.

P.S. I'm also an international student.

i'm still ABSOLUTELY anxious right now eventhough i already got rejected by Williams...cos' i know other highly selective colleges might admit ppl at the last minute. i hope HYP would take ppl at the last minute so place would become availble at Williams.....(fingers crossed)

If there was such a policy, wouldn't it be stated somewhere on their website? I know their website inside-out and backwards. I am trying to learn everything I can about the school since I am trying to transfer there next year.

If you've been rejected, and not waitlisted, there's NO CHANCE that they will call you, no matter how many kids don't show up for classes. Period.

If Williams said the waitlist is closed, I don't think they are going to take anyone now - they'll just take the risk that a couple of kids don't show up. Some schools keep the waitlists open throughout the summer, but it seems that Williams didn't this year.

well...actually i got waitlisted at Williams before i got rejected...does this mean i still have a chance if places do become available? i mean, i totally don't get why they wouldn't take in more ppl if there are places available...especially when everyone's dying to get in...

Once you're rejected, you're rejected. If there's anyone left on the waitlist that they might call, it's not you. It's over. (Besides, if they're oversubscribed, they're hoping some students won't show up.)

First tuition payments have been made by now, right? Williams has a pretty good idea (barring illness/family emergency) who is showing up at this point. Curious Kid, you are going to a great school - focus on having a wonderful experience there!

Curious Kid - I think your time would be much better spent getting excited about Wellesley, as opposed to posting on practially every forum here trying to figure out if there's a chance of getting into Williams now.

Wellesley is a wonderful school, and you might be interested to know that one of my Williams classmates transferred to Wellesley after our sophomore year. Not everyone prefers Williams, and it may turn out that Wellesley is a better fit for you as well.

Also, I believe Wellesley is part of the 12-college exchange program, so you may be able to spend your junior year at Williams, if it still interests you by then.

Enjoy your freshman year at Wellesley! Get to know your roommate and get excited about a fantastic school.
