URGENT! Would this kill my app?

I'm applying to the U of I and their essays are required to be 300 words or so. Now two of my best essays are 528 and 500 words each. Would it be plausible to submit those essays? Does 200 words make a lot of difference? I am banking upon getting into U of I as my only option (Community College otherwise.) Would it be worth risking this or no?

There are a lot of U of Is (Iowa, Indiana, Idaho,...)

Anyway, if you are at ~450 words, that shouldn't be too bad, but much higher than that is pushing it a little too far... cut it down to the things you must talk about

University of Illinois Champaign Urbana

Not sure if you mean Indiana, but, if you do, keep in mind that the state universities are more about statistics than essays. If your essay absolutely cannot be sent with less than what it has, send it and hope for the best. It's important to be concise with your writing, so try your best to cut anything out (within reason) to make it fit better.

bump............

I'd try and cut it down a little bit...

It won't kill your chances, but essays are fairly important at Illinois-UC. Cut it down a little if you can; if you can't, it might annoy admissions a little bit, but won't get you an instant reject

Cut it down. They are almost twice the length specified, and that's noticeable.

what if the essay I want to send really flows and is easy to read.

Send it in - it'll just annoy the adcoms that they have to read so much, but if it's good, they'll get over it

i think youre looking for an answer that you like. so that means you think your essay is good, and you should send it the way it is.

My essays were 400+ words each (but less than 500...although one was 450+, I believe) and I got in.

Although, I would suggest you cut down so they're less than 500. Maybe even just to 499, for that psychological effect :P

haha, thanks guys
