Hi, I’m a junior and my second term is almost over and my GPA is a 2.2 is it possible for me to raise it to a 3.0 by the time I have to apply to college.
It is unlikely. I’m sorry. College admissions decisions are based on grades half way through senior year at the latest. You can get close to a 3.0 if you get straight A’s in spring 2019 and fall 2019, but I think it would take longer than you’ve got left to cross it.
There is hope. There are non-selective schools that will accept you. Or you could start in community college, do well, and transfer to a four-year. And there is the gap year option, which used carefully can demonstrate you have the newfound maturity necessary to do well at college.
Finally - the riskiest possibility - if you get straight A’s this spring, in the fall, and spring 2020, you’d have your 3.0, and then you could apply - very, very late to the game - to a rolling admissions school or to one from the list of colleges who underestimated their yield and still might have open spots. You need to be on your toes for that to work out, as you will have a limited selection of colleges and there won’t be any financial aid.
