How is the University of Rhode Island overall? Like how are the academics and social life..is it too expensive for an out of state student? I heard that it gets boring on the weekends..is this true?

Well, it IS in the boonies...like really, in the middle of the woods. There's a lot of drinking and sex going on...academics aren't all that great unless you're doing pharmacy or nursing. Financial stuff at URI is in bad shape--Carcieri (the gov. of RI) cut a lot of funds for URI, meaning the tuition's going up, scholarships/grants are going down, and sports are being cut down. I'm in-state, and surprisingly it is cheaper going to Tufts than going here--I only have to pay 8,000 a year at Tufts but if I went to URI I'd have to spend 12,000. I also got rejected from the Pharmacy Program AND I didn't even get accepted into the Honors program....only SEVEN people got accepted to the pharmacy program from Rhode Island. Initially I was fumed because I thought In-staters had more priority but, silly me, I should've known URI was in it for the money. rolls eyes You see, I go to this inner-city public school and only one person from my school got in--someone who had lesser stats than me but has a HIGH income. I should've remembered URI wasn't need blind lol. Sorry for ranting, as you can see I'm still a bit bitter, but hey, I'm going off to a better school (go Tufts!).

URI accepts a higher percentage of OOS kids, using them as a moneymaker.

UMass is similarly underfunded.

Our daughter is able to attend URochester for less $ than UMass would cost.
