hi. a friend of mind was interested in MIT and had a few questions. What kind of SAT score would a URM (black female) need to be competitive or atleast given some consideration at MIT. This is assuming everything else on her app would be good (likely valedictorian, hardest schedule, great ecs, recs, essays etc.) Basically what kind of test score would make MIT a school she should bother applying to. Thanks.

p.s If this is a duplicate, i apologize. I thought i posted it earlier today, but i cannot find it anywhere.

The admissions officers generally say that SAT scores above 700 are very good things to have in the MIT applicant pool. Very few people get in with SAT scores less than 600.

Incidentally, it really doesn't matter in a direct way what race and gender someone is -- females and URMs don't get into MIT with lower SAT scores, but it's easier for the ones with the high SAT scores to stand out.

Yup. My friend is a valedictorian URM with a 2130 SAT (Commended scholar) and 3.8 UW and she was rejected. I am also a URM with a 2150 SAT and ranked 13/458 and was accepted with a 3.5 GPA.

okay thanks for the info!
