URM at UVA

wait I just realized I may have taken that the wrong way, so is that the way they do it?

supersenior, ehiunno's response was not inaccurate. Affirmative Action is alive and well at UVA and does essentially what you said in your post: admits URMs based on the level of competition within their own group and their expected overall yield. The general outcome of this policy leads to the bar being much lower for URMs to gain admission, for a number of reasons. If you're interested, after I finish my exams I can dig up some information supporting this for you to look at. However, it's a practice that is pretty commonly understood and you can peruse some of last spring's admissions results threads throughout CC for anecdotal evidence.

alright cavalier that sounds good, ill do that

sorry supersenior, i wasn't trying to be condescending, I was genuinely interested in whether or not you had heard of AA, lol. I was surprised you hadn't.

Regarding extra points, wasn't it the University of Michigan that recently ended the practice of giving URM extra points that were equal to something like an extra 150 pts on the SAT?

You are in 99%. You are sooo set. Try applying to Harvard, Stanford, and other top 20 schools that interest you.

i fear the outburst of outrage with my post but...it would be nice if no one was accepted to any school based on sex, race, income. all should be left out until they are accepted. at the point, if one wants or needs aid, then that can come into play. thus, admissions for august of whatever year should start the august prior. apps should go out and ea/ed should come in dec so that the aid and etc can start. if you cannot go based on need, then jan to april is plenty of time to figure that out. this not letting kids know until april or may about decisions is so out of date. i truly know kids that go waitlisted at their first choice school and just said the heck with it cause who wants to wait until june to find out where they are going. and since your grades after junior year are what is used to decide acceptance, why is it necessary to wait until after dec to get decisions. really is time for a new way to do this.

hey cavalier, i was wondering if you ever got that information?
