URM...chances...hooks?

URM (puerto rican living in south florida) + all-state orchestra as a violinist (5 years?) + Internship at the Scripps Research Institute + top 2% of my class (ranked 5/319) + one strong/introspective essay on all-state experience + one stronge essay on scripps experience + 15 aps by the time of graduation + 3.96 unweighted/ 4.8 weighted (at the moment)

are any of those legitimate hooks for a hispanic male applying EA to harvard?

Yes to all, as long as you've got the SAT scores. If your SATs are above 2100, that combined with your class rank, GPA, and URM status alone would serve as a strong hook. Your other accomplishments would be icing on the cake, so to speak. My advice, use them all, but lead with the URM/hispanic status.

By the way, Harvard has an office of minority recruitment, and I believe they have info on the office on their web page. You should contact them and let them know you're interested.

jan 2006 SAT (first time)

jun 2006 SAT IIs

You got into Princeton with those stats? How was everything else?

My final SAT was actually a 2090 (700 V, 660 M, 730 W).

Everything else was fine--I just did things I liked and excelled in them. If you want/need details, you can PM me.
