URM/First Gen/Low Income to College?

Hello all,

I'll chance you back if you chance me! I'm a Questbridge finalist and I'm trying to gauge how much effort I should put into my other applications. I know that I won't get concrete results from this site as no one can predict college admissions 100% accurately, but I'd just like some feedback. I'd appreciate it you guys get list some match schools because all I have are reaches through Questbridge lol. I've posted several chance threads before but I never said that I was URM or first-gen because I didn't think it was very relevant. However, I realize that colleges look at that stuff. My family makes under $41,000 a year.

...African American Male...
GPA: 4.0 UW ... 4.6-4.7 W
SAT: 2310 (740Cr/780M/790Wr)
SAT II: 780 BioM/800 WH/800 Math II
Rank: Unranked

I go to a public magnet (semi-competitibe highschool...3 of 35 went to MIT last year) math/science residential high school on the grounds of a state university.

This semester I'm taking 19 credits (6 classes) including:
Number Theory Math 518 (highest math class offered at the Uni this semester I believe)
Differential Equations Math 361
Genetics Bio 350
^^I'm also taking government, Spanish, physics lab, programming

Next semester I'm taking 20 credits (6 classes):
Physics II calc based
Complex Analysis 521
Intermediate Analysis 421 (not related to complex...it's proof based calculus basically)
^^As well as more Spanish, programming, and oral communication

Notable Class Related Things:
Taught myself Calc II over winter break (and tested out) to take Multi-variable last year
Taught myself Calc based Physics over summer (and tested out) to take Number Theory
Taking probably the hardest course schedule in my school (maybe the hardest ever). Only 68 college credits are required to graduate, I'll have 90.

ECs:
President Founder Bio Club
President Founder Diversity Club (I wrote about this in my QuestBridge application)
Vice-President of Science Olympiad (I coach first year students in selected events)
Clarinet for 6 years -- State Solo Contest Top Rating/District and State Honor Bands
Conducting research with a faculty member, I'm taking a lead role

Summers:
Last summer I conducted research through the STARS program in St. Louis University. My paper was entitled "The Development of an Assay to Detect Pico- and Femtomolar Concentrations of Target Oligonucleotide" (I wrote my essay on this)

QB essays:
In my opinion, 2 of them are the best pieces of writing I've ever produced. The third is ok.

Recommendations:
One will be spectacular. I took Western Civilization with a professor and I got the 3rd perfect score he had ever given within his 28 years of teaching. This should give me some balance, along with my 800 WH, so I don't look completely like a math and science nerd.

The other will be above average; he's the prof I'm doing research with.

I'm interesting in majoring in bio and mathematics.

Weaknesses:
I'm taking the only foreign language I've ever taken this semester. I'll also be taking it next semester. I know that it looks bad for some schools but I tried to address this in my additional info.

I'm applying to:
MIT
Princeton
Stanford
Yale
Notre Dame
^^through Questbridge

Suggestions on match schools for my competitiveness/chances for the above please.

You have a very good chance of getting into any of these colleges without questbridge, questbridge obviously just increases your chances, very strong EC's, probably get a fulll ride too.....
Chance Me.....

you're in. everywhere! good job!

I appreciate the feedback.

well, u deserve it...damn, u're in everywhere. colleges should be applying to u :)

wth. not fair! WHY?

Thanks for the posts guys.

=/ You make me feel so behind.

You're in everywhere at that. Apply to CalTech as well, it sounds very befitting.

Also, I'm wondering. Do you need Differential Equations for Real Analysis? Or would Calc II and III suffice? (What exactly is Complex Analysis?)

And Number Theory, at that?

Well I just find these classes interesting. I don't understand what you mean by "Do you need..." I've been waiting for almost 2 years to take Complex and Number Theory and I'm so excited lol. This has been the best year for me in terms of being engaged in coursework.

This is the course description for Complex:
Topics may include the algebra and geometry of complex numbers, elementary and analytic functions of a complex variable, contour integration, residues, Taylor and Laurent series and basic fundamental theorems.

I was asking as a pre-requisite.

Oh I'm sorry I read that in between classes, terribly oversightful of me...I tend to do things like that...sorry!

Multi-variate is the only requirement for intermediate and complex analysis.

You sound very impressive!
I would say you're in!

you would be in at pretty much every school in the country.

I think any school would be delighted to have you.
No doubt about it.
