<p>hmm i'm not sure how much URM counts, but i'm sure it counts for something, especially at stanford!</p>
<p>w/o URM you would have a very slim chance, but i think with URM you have a decent chance</p>

<p>To be honest, even as a URM, you stand a very slim chance of getting into Stanford. There must be thousands of URM's applying there with stats equal to or better than than the ORM (Over represented majority...hehe). I hate tooting my horn and Im not saying I am the typcial Hispanic URM applying, but here are my stats: 1520 SAT I, 2360 SAT II, ranked 1st in my class, MVP Cross Country and Track, etc. etc....you get the point.</p>
<p>How full of yourself can you be? You definently are on an ego trip. adjlad i think you have a good chance. coming from a poor background will definently help and also being a URM is always helpful.</p>

<p>No, I'm not on an ego trip. Sorry if my post came off the wrong way. My opinion still stands though, irrespective of my stats. </p>
<p>First of all, being a URM is overrated/misunderstood. It is one of those things like legacy that will get you in over someone with the same stats, but not an excuse for those with stats that arent as good to be accepted. People always say that the bottom 25% of a school's student body is reserved for URMs, athletes, and legacies, and while there may be some truth to that, I hope that when everyone here gets into Stanford they realize that there are URMs smarter than they are, and that there are URMs not as smart as they are.</p>
<p>The other problem is that Stanford has a relatively high application rate for Hispanic students as it is in an area more densely populated with them than say...Cambridge, MA? This simply means that it is harder for a Hispanic URM to get into Stanford based on their URM status than somewhere where not as many Hispanics apply.</p>
<p>Conclusion: adjlad has a slightly better chance than everybody else applying with his or her stats.</p>
