URM Info Needed?

I was just wondering how much does being a URM affect possible admissions? I am currently applying and I just wanted to know what all I have going for me. I'm also from Mississippi if that changes anything.

The short quick answer: Being a URM with top grades, test scores and teacher recommendations can help a lot. See: [does being a URM affect possible admissions? - Google Search](<a href=“does being a URM affect possible admissions? - Google Search”>does being a URM affect possible admissions? - Google Search)

I’m ranked well within my school definitely in the 10% but I’m wanting to compete in track and field at Harvard if at all possible. I’ve looked at the times and results from their current freshman and I feel that I am a possible candidate. I’ve emailed the respective coach and currently awaiting a reply. As far as academics, I’ve got a 30 on the ACT, taking the october test date.

Taking Lit and Math 1 SAT II’s and the SAT in January just to have that under my belt.

Heavily envolved in school with EC’s If needed I’ll post

I take it that you’re not a senior since you’re taking the SAT in January.

In general, I think that URMs applying to schools like Harvard have applications comparable to their non-URM peers. However, the fact that you’re from Mississippi means that you would bring geographic as well as ethnic diversity to campus.

I’m not an admissions officer, so I think it would be wrong of me to chance you and possibly provide you with erroneous information. However, I would try to raise your SAT/ACT and do as well as you can academically while pursuing your greatest interests. You don’t have to be a world champion to go to Harvard (although it probably helps).

I actually am a senior, I’ve verified that they will accept this test date as well
