I was wondering how colleges considered those who are only half-URM. For example, I'm half Hispanic (Mexican-American) and half white. Will I be considered URM or will they just put me down as white?

You'll be considered a URM.

firefly,
If you mark both, you will be considered a URM. For ethnicity, most applications ask for any that apply, so mark both Hispanic (they have you designate the country) and Caucasion. If they ask for just one, mark mixed and then explain what you are.

Your GPA and PSAT look great (I took a look at your back posts :)). You should easily qualify for the National Hispanic Recognition Scholar based on Jr. year PSAT scores. Also, if you haven't already, sign up to be a Venture scholar.

There are many opportunities as far as summer programs and paid visits to colleges that you should check into. PM me if you want further info.

Good luck, EM

I believe that to be considered an URM -Hispanic anyway by Gov't rules, you must be at least 1/4 Hispanic. You have the choice to classify yourself as either Hispanic or White, non Hispanic or OTHER. You must choose one.
My children are 1/4 Mexican American. Their closest relatives and the family they most identify with are Mexican Americans.
My son chose not to declare Hispanic on his college apps and so chose the Other box and then listed his three ethnic origins. My daughter, who is more closely alligned with the family and who speaks Spanish has chosen to declare herself as a Mexican American.

hey i had the same question (1/2 mexican, 1/2 italian) and i looked at the common app and it says "mark all [ethnicities] that apply"
