URM thread

Hi koolmaria, hope your first two days of school have been great! Wow, has our heat/heat index been crazy or what? I saw your post about not wanting to go to Cornell, (either does my D) but her IB HL Latin teacher this year, (new) got his PHd in Latin/Greek linguistics from Cornell! Googled him, also has taught 2 years there, and 2 more years other colleges. Glad somebody of his caliber is at the school! Her class is made up of 3 or 4 HL, several SL IB and the rest AP, Lit or Vergil! He scared so many of them that after today (day two) 5 that she knows of are leaving! She is excited to learn from somebody of his calibur. Oh, D latest "list", Amherst, Dartmouth, Davidson, and then the "you know al the GC push you into" schools in our state! Oops, Pitt Honors also! Anyways, glad you are back on threads, you always have good insight into things!

I'm applying to:
Purdue
University of Illinois
University of Michigan
Notre Dame
NYU
Cornell
Northwestern
University of Virginia

"lol i definitely thought your question was to me koolmaria and I answered it. But then I saw that it was to floridastudent. Srry"
no prob trackbabi, your post was reassuring. I now have hope of a married life, lol! Atlanta is full of Nigerians. There are like tropjcal food markets and farmer's markets everywhere. Most of my family lives there, but I live like 2 hours in a small town. Are you a rising freshman or sophmore at Cornell?

GA mom, yeah the heat is insane! It's great yourdaughter has a good Latin teacher! And her list looks good. I guess she's leaning towards liberal art colleges. cool.

notrdamebrother, my sis goes to medical school at UMich, and I visited there this summer. I loved the homey feel of Ann Arbor and the scenery; it's like the perfect college town. But I'm not applying because it's too large for me.

drjay, I think it's hard to get into top schools in general.

yeah, i go to a catholic school so i have to three religion classes, but theyre each one trimester so it's not so bad.

rising sophomore

trackbabi, what's your major? I'm assuming you like Cornell, since you're they're unofficial rep on CC, why? Is Cornell really that isolated?

Floridastudent, I'm taking ap gov. too. We had a quiz today over chp. 1 (using American gov. book with Lincoln statue on the front) How do yo like it so far I though the first chapter was dull. We are also reading the selling of the president (about Nixon campaign), which is also dry. Hopefully,l the class picks up pace.

Have you guys chosen your teacher recs yet or finished your essays? I had to hunt down my last year teachers (I moved in middle of jr. year) to write me one. But I am yet to finish my common app essay.

I havent even started school yet lol!! I pretty much know what teachers I am going to ask to write recs. I have started my essays but havent completed all of them!! I should get a move on those essays though

Yeah && I'm Yoruba....Yoruba's are the best!!

Blah Lagos! There are alot of Nigerians in New York also

I hate how Nigerians are so bent on knowing how to cook as part of marriage

all my mom tells me is make sure I find a women that knows how to cook or I'll miss her cooking..........shaking my head

I'm like mom, cooking is the last thing on my criteria for women
Its not even a cut-off at all. I can care less if she knows how to cook

but anyway, back to the URM kinda thingy. Columbia && Amherst All the wayyyyy!! :D

Yeah diva and sevitagen at some liberal arts colleges Asians are considered URM's.

This doesn't necessarily mean that these schools give Asian applicants any "leeway".

So Authentic, yeah my aunt gives me the same old speech every time I am reading or studying while she is cooking: "No Nigerian man will ever marry if you can't feed him..." I think it's because Nigerians love to eat. It's like part of our culture. As for: "Yeah && I'm Yoruba....Yoruba's are the best!!"
wrong! Oron runs this! Awka Ibom & River State rule! lol just kidding. I don't want to let tribal competition get in the way of discussing stuff. It is already a huge problem over there.
"I'm like mom, cooking is the last thing on my criteria for women
Its not even a cut-off at all. I can care less if she knows how to cook"
awesome. Hopefully, other Nigerian men think like you do, lol.
So Authentic are those the only places (Columbia and Amherst) that you are applying?

Diva, when do you start? I started Aug. 13, and I always assumed (being the self-involved person I am lol) that everyone starts then.

koolmaria you started school already!? I'm going back next monday =D so i don't know anything about gov yet hehe.

Yoruba>Igbo>Hausa. Sorry, that's just the way it is. No more discussion.

Koolmaria, Hell No you guys don't run things!. LOL...geuss again

&& hell no again, I'm not applying to just Columbia && Amherst. I must be a mad man If I'm counting only on those two

FredFredBurger I think you for describing the elite Monarchy stages for Nigerians. Kudos

End of Thread ;)

ok where else are you applying So Authentic. I know Oron people arwe a mnority in nigeria, but we dtill have the best-looking people and food. (jk)

I predict the members of this thread to be much more succesful in the college admissions process than the rest of this site.

Senior year is already getting depressing for me. It's hard to balance class, college app stuff, and SAT studying. Anyway, what kinda music do you guys like to listen to?

And Fred Fred. i take it you're Yoruba?

I'm a Native American male applying to::

nice choices, nat do you live on a reservation?

"Columbia's your # 1 choice. It's mine too... kinda and Penn is too"

How can you have both Penn and Columbia as number 1 choices? Those schools are quite different....
