URM? Who is applicable?

So I frequently see the term URM on threads and was wondering if Indians apply. For some reason I get the impression that less Indians apply to boarding school… Is that a reasonable conclusion (or not so true… because in bigger schools there are ‘hindu/indian clubs’ so i am not sure)? This is obliviously not true for college applications… but in a boarding school setting how common are Indian applicants …

In academic admission world, Indians are usually combined as the Asian group and considered as ORM (opposite of URM) URM are usually African American, Hispanic and Native American.

Asian and Indian are somewhat the same thing for admissions purposes.

Plenty of Indian kids from the US, UK, Canada, etc apply to boarding schools. Indians from India on the other hand are a relative rarity in boarding schools.

In my sons birding school class there are probably 10% Indians. None of which are from India.

I agree. Indians would be ORMs (over represented minorities.) Native americans on the other hand are URM.
